What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a gentle and safe way of healing that works to restore the body's natural balance and state of health. Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances, are environmentally friendly, and cruelty free.

One noteworthy mention is that the word homeopathy is not a general term that describes a variety of different natural therapies. Although homeopathic remedies are derived from natural substances, homeopathy should not be confused with herbal medicine, Chinese medicine, or other types of natural medicines. It is its own, unique therapeutic system.

It is commonly used to treat acute illnesses such as colds, headaches, ear infections, fever, sore throat, as well as chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, and asthma; however, are not limited to these. Homeopathy was developed as a complete system of medicine. It has the capacity to benefit almost all health conditions.

Homeopathic remedies are made in accordance to the standards written in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States, and are regulated by the FDA. Remedies are made using a repeated dilution process to create potencies that can range from dilutions of 1:10 to 1:50,000.

Dr Schmittat studied homeopathy as part of the Naturopathic Doctorates program at the University of Bridgeport. She completed a Masters program in Advanced Homeopathy at The Other Song Academy in India; and is currently working to become a Certified Classical Homeopath (CCH).

What happens during a homeopathic consultation and what does it cost?

The first visit usually lasts one to two hours. During the visit, the Dr Schmittat will review the your medical history and attempt to understand the whole picture of your symptoms: —mental, emotional, and physical. A homeopathic medicine will be chosen to match your symptom profile.

Scheduling of follow-up visits will vary depending on your needs. Intervals of three to four weeks are typical. A follow-up visit normally lasts 30–60 minutes. This allows sufficient time for the remedy to begin working, and for Dr Schmittat to analyze the results. Clear improvements and changes should be seen by this time. If no improvement occur by then, Dr Schmittat will adjust the remedy.

After the first follow up, appointments are scheduled at one month intervals until the symptom(s) have sufficiently improved or resolved. At that time, follow ups can be scheduled as needed.

The cost of a first visit to a homeopathic varies on location. Please call ahead and ask Dr Schmittat, based on the location that you would like to be seen.
