What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese Medicine, in which practitioners insert thin needles into specific points in the body to stimulate the smooth flow of energy (Qi), to relieve pain, restore balance and a persons state of health. Acupuncturists assess a patient's syndrome, symptom, or pattern of disharmony by using a set of diagnostic skills that involve visual inspection, palpation, questioning, smelling, and listening. By determining the exact pattern of the body's disharmony, an acupuncturist then determines the strategy necessary to stimulate the healing process.

Acupuncture therapeutics includes the use of Needle insertion, electro-acupuncture, moxa, cupping, Tui-na, lifestyle modification, dietary therapy, and exercises such as Tai chi or Qi gong.
